Zong to invest over Rs4 Billion in Karachi data centre

KARACHI: Zong China Mobile Pakistan has announced plans to invest more than Rs4 billion in a new data centre in Karachi, following a meeting between a senior company delegation and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed to develop the facility through a public-private partnership (PPP), with the Sindh government pledging its support and assistance for the project.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said strengthening digital infrastructure was crucial for economic development, technological advancement and creating new opportunities for the country’s youth. He added that the provincial government was actively supporting technology and digital initiatives across Sindh.

A Zong spokesperson said the company would initially invest over Rs4 billion in the Karachi data centre, while a further Rs14 billion investment is planned over the next decade.

The chief minister said the project could play an important role in positioning Karachi as a regional centre for technology, cloud services and artificial intelligence.

The planned facility is also expected to expand Karachi’s capacity for cloud computing and local data storage, while contributing to the wider development of Sindh’s digital infrastructure.
