ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have paid tribute to the officers, sailors and civilian personnel of the Pakistan Navy on the occasion of Navy Day, praising their courage, professionalism and operational readiness.
In separate messages, both leaders expressed confidence that the Navy would continue to uphold its distinguished traditions and protect Pakistan’s maritime interests with dedication and courage.
President Zardari recalled the Pakistan Navy’s Operation Somnath, launched against the Indian coastal facility at Dwarka during the night of September 7-8, 1965. He said the daring mission remains a landmark chapter in the Navy’s history and reflects the determination and resilience of its personnel.
According to the president, the operation demonstrated the Navy’s fighting spirit and contributed to the development of a confident and capable maritime force committed to safeguarding the country’s sea frontiers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described September 8 as a day that recalls the courage, determination and professional excellence displayed by Pakistan Navy personnel during the 1965 war.
He said the Navy once again demonstrated its operational capability during Marka-e-Haq last year, maintaining the same spirit of resilience and preparedness and effectively deterring a numerically superior adversary from carrying out aggression at sea.
The prime minister reaffirmed that the Pakistan Navy would continue playing its vital role in protecting the country’s maritime security and sovereignty.
