Yash-starrer ‘Toxic’ faces massive OTT price drop after box office failure

WEB DESK: Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups is reportedly facing another setback after its theatrical performance failed to meet expectations, with the film’s post-theatrical digital rights said to have suffered a major drop in valuation.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, an OTT platform has now offered around Rs 30 crore for the film’s post-theatrical streaming rights across all languages. The reported offer is significantly lower than the Rs 150 crore proposal the makers had received before the film’s release.

A source quoted by the publication claimed that the Toxic team had initially received an offer of Rs 150 crore from a leading streaming platform. However, the makers were reportedly seeking more than Rs 200 crore for the digital rights.

The team allegedly expected the film to perform strongly at the box office, which could have helped increase its post-theatrical value. However, the film’s reported underperformance appears to have had the opposite effect on its digital valuation.

“Yash was confident that the film would do blockbuster business in theatres, and that in turn, would boost the post-theatrical OTT prices to Rs. 200 crore plus,” the source was quoted as saying.

The source added that digital platforms are now reportedly offering as little as Rs 30 crore for the streaming rights of the film in all languages.

Amid the reported decline in OTT offers, the makers are also said to be considering a new version of Toxic specifically for digital release. The move is reportedly linked to the adult nature of the film’s storytelling.
