WSJ reports Trump plans extended blockade of Iran

WASHINGTON: According to the Wall Street Journal, President Donald Trump has instructed U.S. security officials to prepare for an extended naval blockade of Iran’s ports, aimed at pressuring Tehran to abandon its nuclear ambitions.

The report states that Trump is skeptical of Iran’s willingness to negotiate in good faith and hopes to force Iran to suspend uranium enrichment for two decades and accept stringent restrictions afterward.

Trump reportedly warned, “They better get smart soon!” via social media.

Sources unnamed in the Journal revealed that during a recent White House meeting, Trump decided that both resuming military strikes and abandoning diplomacy were too risky. Instead, he directed the U.S. Navy to intensify efforts to restrict Iran’s oil exports until Tehran agrees to U.S. terms.
