Islamabad: The Election Commission Of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) appeal to suspend membership of Punjab Assemblies (PA) dissident members.
Three-member commission of the ECP headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sultan Raja heard PTI reference against dissidents members of Punjab Assembly.
During the hearing Tuesday (today), CEC Sultan Raja remarked that next date could not be taken by shouting while he also ordered to give arguments on May 13.
The PTI advocate Azhar Saddiq said that the dissidents members have to prove that they didn’t cast their votes.
Malika Bukhari, MNA of PTI said that legal and constitutional crisis is ongoing in Punjab while she insisted the ECP announce verdict of suspension of the 25 MPAs.
MNA Noor Alam Khan counsel declared the reference baseless while he insisted the ECP to give verdict on maintainability of the reference first.
He said that the reference stated that the PTI dissidents joined the opposition parties while no any name of the party were informed adding that this reference is baseless and based on lies.
Lawyer of PTI Faisal Chaudhry said that dissidents members were given time after issuing show-casue notice for full opportunity for respond, to which dissidents members raised objection.
The CEC said that we have running short of time we will give verdict on the maintainability of the reference first.
The hearing of PTI’s National Assembly (NA) will be held tomorrow (Wednesday).
