CALIFORNIA: A US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bomber crashed at Edwards Air Force Base in California shortly after takeoff, according to international media reports.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the air base said the aircraft went down at approximately 11:20 a.m. on the Edwards airfield moments after departing the runway.
Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the crash site and launched rescue operations.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether there were any injuries or fatalities, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Edwards Air Force Base is located about 100 miles north of Los Angeles and serves as one of the US Air Force’s primary flight test and research facilities.
