WEB DESK: President Donald Trump announced the removal of US B-1 bombers from a British airbase due to a threat linked to Iran. Previously stationed at RAF Fairford, these bombers were recently used in strikes on Iran.
Following the arrest of five British men near the base for suspected terrorist activities, Trump explained the decision to relocate them, stating it was a precaution due to a potential threat. When asked about the connection to Iran, Trump confirmed it.
Vice President JD Vance echoed this sentiment, emphasizing caution in response to Iran’s history of terrorism. However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified there was no direct link to an Iranian plot, asserting resource reallocation strategies. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham suggested potential Iranian backing for any plot, though Iran denied these accusations.
Fairford remains significant for the US, as it’s one of few European airbases suitable for heavy bombers like the B-1.
