Trump breaks silence on Musk taking drugs in White House

WASHINGTON: Donald Trump has broken his silence about Elon Musk’s drug use, saying he’s not sure whether his former DOGE chief used illicit substances in the White House but “hopes” he never did.

President Donald Trump addressed recent revelations about Elon Musk’s alleged drug use during his time as an adviser at the White House. Speaking at an investment roundtable on Monday, Trump expressed uncertainty about whether Musk, his former close associate, engaged in illicit substances while serving in the administration, but he conveyed hope that he did not.

“I’m not sure if Elon used drugs in the White House,” Trump stated. “I hope he didn’t. I have no reason to believe he did, but I’d imagine he’d want to talk to me if he did.”

The comments mark Trump’s first public response to reports published earlier this month by The New York Times, which claimed Musk was consuming ketamine regularly during his tenure as a top adviser to the former president. The report alleged that Musk’s drug use caused health issues, including bladder problems.

Despite the fallout from their reported fallout last week, Trump noted he has not spoken directly with Musk since their breakup but remains open to communication. “He’s a smart guy. If he wants to call, I’d be happy to talk,” Trump added.

The revelations come amid heightened scrutiny of Musk’s behavior during his time advising Trump, raising questions about the influence of substance use on decision-making at the highest levels of government. Both Musk and Trump have yet to publicly respond to the report.
