KARACHI: A major fire broke out at a garments factory in the Landhi Export Processing Zone on Monday, sending thick smoke through the building and leaving several workers unconscious.
Five fire brigade vehicles were dispatched to the scene as firefighters battled the intense blaze and worked to bring the flames under control.
At least three workers, including a woman, suffered serious effects from smoke inhalation and were shifted to a hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Police and Rangers personnel also reached the site to assist with the emergency response and maintain security around the affected facility.
Fire officials requested an immediate water supply from the Karachi Water Corporation to support firefighting operations.
Following the request, Water Corporation CEO Ahmad Ali Siddiqui declared an emergency at the Landhi and Sherpao hydrants and ordered multiple water tankers to be sent to the factory.
A Water Corporation spokesperson assured that an uninterrupted water supply would be maintained for firefighters until the operation was completed.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage were not immediately clear, while further details were awaited.
