LAHORE: Police have arrested three men in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 22-year-old Azerbaijani woman in Lahore, DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza said on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference, the senior police officer said the suspects allegedly assaulted the foreign national at a rented apartment in a private housing society in Lahore’s Defence area.
According to police, the woman arrived in Pakistan in late September for business-related purposes. She later alleged that three men sexually assaulted her after making her consume alcohol.
The woman also recorded her allegations before a judicial magistrate, stating that she had been subjected to sexual assault by the three suspects.
Meanwhile, a Lahore court sent another woman accused of allegedly facilitating the incident to judicial remand.
Judicial Magistrate Azhar Mahmood heard the case after the accused was brought before the court following completion of her three-day physical remand.
Police informed the court that they no longer required her custody for further investigation.
The court subsequently sent the accused to jail on judicial remand and directed authorities to produce her again on October 17.
