LAKKI MARWAT: A suspected militant allegedly involved in the killing of three young cricketers was killed in a joint police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) operation in Lakki Marwat on Monday, police said.
The operation was carried out in Abdul Khel village, where security personnel engaged the suspect, identified as Manzoor, in an exchange of fire. Police said the suspect was killed during the encounter.
District Police Officer (DPO) Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada confirmed the militant’s death and said his body had been taken into police custody.
According to police, Manzoor was wanted by the CTD Bannu Division in connection with seven terrorism-related cases. Investigators also accused him of involvement in the attack that killed three cricket players.
The operation continued for several hours following the exchange of fire. The CTD subsequently launched an extensive search of the surrounding area to trace other suspects allegedly linked to militant activity.
Police said the three cricketers were attacked in Abdul Khel on Sunday evening while they were returning from Shah Hassan Khel in a rickshaw.
Three young players were killed in the attack, while three others sustained injuries and were shifted for medical treatment.
The CTD has registered a case and begun an investigation. Search operations are continuing in the area to apprehend other suspects, police said.
