AJ.KASHMIR: Former Azad Jammu and Kashmir prime minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas is reportedly preparing to quit the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) following disagreements over the allocation of party tickets for the upcoming AJK Legislative Assembly elections.
According to sources, Tanveer Ilyas had requested PPP tickets for three constituencies Wasti Bagh, Pachiot and Upper Neelum. However, the party was only willing to consider his candidature from Neelum and Pachiot, while planning to nominate Sardar Zia Al-Qamar for Wasti Bagh.
Sources claimed there had initially been an understanding that Tanveer Ilyas would receive the Wasti Bagh ticket, but the arrangement changed during the final stages of candidate selection.
The list of candidates approved by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reportedly did not include Tanveer Ilyas from any constituency, further deepening the differences between the two sides.
Insiders say the dispute over ticket distribution has prompted the former premier to consult close political allies regarding his future, with the possibility of leaving the PPP if his demands remain unmet.
Meanwhile, sources revealed that the Istehkam Pakistan Party (IPP) has approached Tanveer Ilyas with an offer to rejoin its ranks. He had previously joined the IPP after resigning as AJK prime minister before later switching to the PPP Azad Kashmir chapter.
Political observers are closely monitoring the situation, as a key decision regarding Tanveer Ilyas’ political future is expected in the coming days.
