T20 World Cup: Afghanistan To Face Scotland Today

SHARJAH: Afghanistan will play against Scotland in International Cricket Council (ICC) Twenty20 World Cup in Sharjah today (Monday).

The match will start at 07 pm (PST).

Scotland and Afghanistan will start their Super-12 campaign today at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

History of Scotland and Afghanistan Face Off

Scotland have played three games in the first round of the tournament and won all three of them. They finished at the number one position in Group B.

There is no doubt that they would be full of confidence and would look to carry on the momentum in the upcoming matches.

All four batsmen in the top four made some contribution in the last game for Scotland. Their star batsman, George Munsey hasn’t really taken the world by storm. He has got the starts but failed to convert those into big scores. Ahead of an important game against Afghanistan, he really needs to step up with the bat. Richie Berrington has been in top-notch form.

His last two scores in the tournament are 26 (35)* and 70 off 49. Add to that, their skipper, Coetzer too played a valuable 41 off 28 in the last game. All these are positive signs for Scotland heading into the big game. Speaking of the bowling unit, the onus will be on the likes of Josh Davey and Bradley Wheal.

The former in particular has been fabulous with the ball. In the last two games, he has managed to pick 7 wickets at an economy of less than 6. He will definitely be the biggest bet in the bowling department. Having said that, the other bowlers haven’t really picked a lot of wickets and that is something they need to work on.

Afghanistan
On the other hand, Afghanistan will be playing their first game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 on Monday. All the eyes will be on Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi. Both has vast experience of playing different franchise cricket tournaments across the globe. If Afghanistan need to go deeper into the tournament, these two has to pick a lot of wickets.

The duo will be supported by Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the spin department. On a slow and sluggish track of Sharjah, the trio is likely to receive a lot of purchase from the surface.

Speaking of the batting unit, the rising Rahmanullah Gurbaz is the one to keep an eye on. His range of shots and power-hitting ability makes him an integral cog in Afghanistan’s T20 team.

Besides, the presence of Hazratullah Zazai and Mohammad Shahzad makes the team a formidable batting unit. It will be interesting to see how Afghanistan begin their ICC T20 World Cup 2021 campaign on Monday.
