SWAT: The death toll from the suicide bombing outside Kabal Police Station in Swat has risen to 16 after two police constables, who were critically injured in the attack, passed away during treatment on Monday.
The deceased officers were identified as Mukarram Khan and Hussain Khan, while 13 other policemen remain under medical care.
Investigators said preliminary findings indicate that the suicide attacker was an Afghan national, with forensic teams identifying him after recovering his severed head from the blast site. Security forces have launched a search operation to trace and arrest those who allegedly facilitated the attack.
Police officials said the bombing claimed the lives of seven police personnel and nine civilians, taking the overall death toll to 16.
Funeral prayers for five martyred policemen were held with full state honours at the Swat Police Training School. Senior officials from the civil administration, police and military attended the ceremony before the bodies were transported to their hometowns for burial.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, expressing sorrow over the loss of lives and extending condolences to the bereaved families.
He paid tribute to the fallen police officers, saying they embraced martyrdom while preventing the suicide bomber from entering the police station, thereby averting an even greater tragedy.
