ISLAMABAD: A bill regarding the age limit for social media users has been introduced in the Senate.
According to the bill, the minimum age for a social media user will be 16 years. Social media platforms will be prohibited from allowing users below this age to create accounts.
The bill proposes that if a social media platform permits a minor to open an account, it will face a fine ranging from 50,000 to 5 million rupees.
Additionally, anyone facilitating minors in creating social media accounts could face up to six months of imprisonment and a fine between 50,000 and 5 million rupees.
The bill states that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will block social media accounts of underage children and take measures to prevent minors from creating accounts.
