ISLAMABAD: Law-enforcement authorities have seized a vehicle allegedly transporting a consignment of slingshots intended for a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Peshawar.
Police sources said the vehicle was intercepted in Islamabad on September 23, following which the driver was taken into custody.
The sources claimed the slingshots were being transported for use during the PTI’s planned protest demonstration in Peshawar. The seized material was subsequently set on fire by law-enforcement personnel, they added.
The seizure comes as PTI workers and supporters prepare for the party’s planned protest in Peshawar.
Police sources alleged that the slingshots were part of material being arranged for use during the demonstration.
Authorities have expressed concerns over possible law-and-order issues during PTI protests, several of which have previously been accompanied by clashes, property damage and other incidents of violence.
