RAWALPINDI: Six terrorists were killed and two Pakistan Army personnel embraced martyrdom during an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.
According to the military’s media wing, security forces launched the operation in the Zarkani area of DI Khan after receiving intelligence about the presence of Fitna al-Khawarij.
The ISPR said troops effectively targeted a hideout of Indian-sponsored terrorists, killing six militants during the operation.
It added that two soldiers, Naik Ghulam Murtaza, 36, a resident of Gujrat, and Sepoy Taseer Ahmed, 30, from Talagang, fought valiantly during an intense exchange of fire and sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists, the statement said.
According to the ISPR, the killed militants were involved in several terrorist activities targeting security forces and law enforcement agencies, as well as attacks that claimed the lives of innocent civilians.
Security forces have launched a sanitisation operation in the area to ensure the elimination of any remaining terrorists, the statement added.
The military’s media wing reaffirmed that security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue counterterrorism operations under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
It further stated that the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers strengthened the nation’s determination to combat terrorism and restore lasting peace.
