Sindh CM opens Azeempura Flyover to improve Karachi traffic network

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday inaugurated the newly built Azeempura Flyover, a major infrastructure project designed to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in several key areas of Karachi.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sindh Assembly Speaker Awais Qadir Shah, and Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister praised the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) for completing the Rs1.562 billion project in just 90 days, surpassing the original 100-day deadline. Construction work began on March 8 and was finished on June 8, 2026.

Funded by the Sindh Local Government Department and executed by KMC, the project includes not only the flyover but also road expansion and rehabilitation, drainage upgrades, installation of street lighting, construction of footpaths, centre median barriers, and the redesign of the Azeempura roundabout.

Murad Ali Shah said the new infrastructure would provide smoother travel for thousands of commuters moving between Korangi, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, Shahrah-e-Bhutto, Shahrah-e-Faisal, and Jinnah International Airport.

He noted that the flyover would ease congestion at one of Karachi’s busiest intersections by creating a direct route from Shahrah-e-Bhutto to Shah Faisal Colony and onward to Shahrah-e-Faisal and the airport.

According to official project details, the development features a 700-metre dual-carriageway flyover, a 1,255-metre dual-carriageway main road, and additional ground-level roads connecting Azeempura Road, Shahrah-e-Bhutto, Shah Faisal Colony, and Thandi Sarak.

The scheme also includes the rehabilitation of nearly 2,075 metres of drainage lines, construction of 850 metres of footpaths, development of a modern roundabout, installation of centre median barriers, and a new street-lighting system comprising 93 poles and 157 light fixtures.

Officials expressed confidence that the project will significantly reduce travel times, improve traffic flow, and strengthen connectivity across one of Karachi’s busiest transportation corridors.
