Sindh assumes control of evacuated properties across province

KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to assume administrative control of all evacuated properties across the province, maintaining that, following the 18th Constitutional Amendment, such assets fall under provincial jurisdiction.

The decision was approved by the Sindh cabinet, which also authorized the appointment of Deputy Commissioners as administrators of evacuated properties in every district. The officials will be responsible for overseeing the properties and removing illegal encroachments.

Provincial authorities said the move is in line with the Evacuee Trust Properties Act, 2021, under which the Sindh government claims responsibility for managing these properties.

The development comes after a long-standing disagreement between the federal and provincial governments over control of evacuated assets. The dispute intensified after the Federal Evacuee Trust Property Board issued a tender to auction several properties in Karachi, a move strongly opposed by the Sindh government.

Sindh authorities declared the proposed auction unlawful and have now formally moved to take charge of all evacuated properties across the province.
