ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has praised the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for using advanced technology to improve Pakistan’s disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities.
The minister made the remarks during a visit to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) at NDMA headquarters in Islamabad, where she received a detailed briefing on the authority’s operations and ongoing initiatives.
Officials briefed Shaza on NDMA’s plans to introduce next-generation technology for disaster risk monitoring, early warnings and emergency response.
The briefing covered several technology-based initiatives, including AI and IoT-enabled systems for real-time monitoring of potential hazards, NEOC Startups, artificial intelligence-driven disaster management solutions and an Internet Protocol-based Disaster Early Warning TV system aimed at improving public risk communication.
The minister also visited the Mobile NEOC, a disaster-resilient infrastructure model, the proposed humanitarian hub and other next-generation technology facilities.
She was briefed on their operational readiness, logistical arrangements and technology-supported emergency response mechanisms.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication to strengthening cooperation with NDMA and promoting technology-driven disaster risk management.
She said closer institutional coordination would help improve Pakistan’s ability to respond to emergencies and build greater resilience against natural and other disasters.
Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, along with senior officials, received the federal minister upon her arrival at the authority’s headquarters.
