ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly was informed that Pakistan’s information technology exports are projected to exceed $4.5 billion during the current fiscal year, reflecting steady growth in the sector.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja told lawmakers during Question Hour that IT exports have registered a 20 percent increase, noting that the country has nearly doubled its export volume in recent years.
She said the government is also focusing on expanding human resource development initiatives to further strengthen the digital economy and support long-term growth in the technology sector.
Referring to recent spectrum developments, the minister added that improvements in 4G services are underway, while 5G connectivity is expected to be introduced in Islamabad and all provincial capitals in the coming months.
Separately, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry informed the House that the National Disaster Management Authority has deployed advanced systems to improve weather forecasting and early warning capabilities. He said this data is shared with provincial authorities to help reduce losses from extreme weather events.
Minister for Poverty Alleviation Syed Imran Ahmad Shah stated that the Benazir Income Support Programme is currently providing financial assistance to more than ten million families across the country.
During the session, two bills were also introduced, including the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill 2026 and the Sea Carriage Shipping Documents Bill 2026.
Responding to opposition concerns, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry rejected claims of Pakistani deportations from the United Arab Emirates, stating that relations between the two countries remain strong and cooperative. He also noted that remittance inflows from Saudi Arabia and the UAE continue to remain among the highest.
In a separate response, officials confirmed that there is currently no GST on petroleum products, adding that the government is providing targeted relief measures, including subsidies for motorcycle fuel consumers.
