Shahid Afridi faces criticism over remarks on parenting, mobile phone use

WEB DESK: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi sparked widespread discussion on social media after sharing his views on parenting, children’s upbringing, and the growing use of mobile phones among young people.

Speaking during a visit to Dar-e-Arqam Schools in Islamabad, Afridi highlighted the importance of family values, moral development, and parental involvement in raising children.

During his address, the former cricketer said both religious and academic education play a vital role in a child’s future, but added that proper upbringing at home remains the primary responsibility of parents.

Afridi emphasised that the early years of a child’s life are especially important, urging parents to personally teach discipline, manners, and ethical values rather than relying entirely on educational institutions. According to him, the guidance provided by parents during childhood cannot be replaced by schools or outside influences.

His remarks, particularly those concerning restrictions on mobile phone use for daughters, triggered mixed reactions online, with many social media users debating his views on parenting and modern family dynamics.
