ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Registrar’s Office on Tuesday raised preliminary objections to a contempt petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over the alleged non-implementation of a court order regarding the transfer of party founder Imran Khan to a hospital.
Sources said the objections were preliminary and would be subject to a decision by the competent authority on whether they should be upheld or removed.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan confirmed that the Registrar’s Office had objected to the petition, saying it did not contain a list of individuals against whom contempt proceedings were being sought.
Speaking to reporters, Gohar said the party had also requested an early hearing of the case. He said the petition was being returned following the objections and would be re-filed after addressing them.
The PTI had filed the contempt petition on Saturday, alleging that the Supreme Court’s August 18 order concerning its founder’s medical examination had not been implemented.
In its plea, the party sought contempt proceedings against those allegedly responsible for violating the apex court’s directives and requested the issuance of show-cause notices to the officials concerned.
The petition further asked the court to summon the alleged contemnors in their personal capacity and take action against them in accordance with the law.
PTI also requested the Supreme Court to order the immediate transfer of its founder to Shifa International Hospital for a medical examination, in line with the relief sought in the petition.
