SC hints at historic ruling in patricide clemency case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has signaled that it will issue a groundbreaking and potentially transformative decision on April 8 in a prominent case involving a man convicted of killing his father.

A bench comprising three judges, led by Justice Hashim Kakar, considered the plea of Muhammad Safdar, who has requested clemency based on alleged reconciliation efforts between the involved parties.

During the hearing, the defense lawyer informed the court that a formal settlement had been reached and documented, mentioning that the convict had already spent 14 years behind bars and should be released.

The top court, however, expressed serious doubts about granting relief in such a serious case. Justice Kakar stated that even 24 years of imprisonment would hardly be enough punishment for someone who murdered their father.
