Qatar reaffirms continued LNG support for Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Ali bin Mubarak Al-Khater held talks in Islamabad to review bilateral energy cooperation and discuss measures aimed at maintaining uninterrupted LNG supplies to Pakistan.

According to an official statement, the meeting focused on strengthening coordination between the two countries in the energy sector, particularly regarding future LNG arrangements and strategic storage cooperation.

During the discussions, Ali Pervaiz Malik expressed appreciation to the Qatari government for ensuring timely LNG deliveries at a period when Pakistan was dealing with challenges linked to congestion in the Strait of Hormuz and increasing electricity demand during the summer season.

The petroleum minister said Qatar’s assistance reflected the close and longstanding brotherly relations between the two nations. He added that he had remained in regular contact with Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi regarding LNG shipments, noting that two LNG cargoes had successfully arrived in Pakistan through close bilateral coordination.

Ali Pervaiz Malik stated that Pakistan intended to continue working with friendly countries, especially Qatar, to secure reliable energy supplies while minimising risks associated with regional instability. He also said efforts were underway to arrange additional gas supplies in line with the country’s growing energy needs.

Ambassador Ali bin Mubarak Al-Khater reaffirmed Doha’s support for Islamabad and said Qatar was committed to extending full cooperation to help Pakistan meet its energy requirements. He also praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and constructive contribution toward regional peace and stability.

The petroleum minister further remarked that ongoing regional tensions had highlighted the importance of stronger energy preparedness. He said the government, under the leadership of Shehbaz Sharif, was developing a broader energy security strategy to safeguard the country against external disruptions in fuel and energy supplies.
