Punjab to establish Kulsoom Nawaz cancer hospital in DG Khan

LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved plans to establish a modern cancer hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan to improve healthcare services for people living in southern Punjab.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that the facility will be named the Kulsoom Nawaz Hospital in memory of her late mother, Kulsoom Nawaz. The project aims to provide advanced and

international-standard cancer treatment facilities within the region, reducing the need for patients to travel to larger cities for specialised care.

According to officials, the hospital will be built at an estimated cost of Rs15.21 billion and is expected to be completed between 2026 and 2029. Funding for the project is likely to be included in the upcoming provincial budget.

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to expanding specialised healthcare services throughout Punjab. He noted that the new cancer hospital would bring modern oncology treatment closer to residents of southern Punjab.

Authorities also highlighted that the provincial government is simultaneously working on several major healthcare projects, including the under-construction Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital in Lahore, which is estimated to cost Rs74.92 billion. Once completed, the DG Khan facility is expected to become one of the region’s leading cancer treatment centres.
