LAHORE: Punjab likely to announce early summer vacations amid heatwave fears
He got schools and colleges as rising temperatures and possible heatwave conditions intensify across the province.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said authorities are reviewing a proposal to begin summer holidays from May 22, with educational institutions expected to reopen on August 2.
According to the minister, a final announcement regarding the revised academic schedule will be made on May 11 after consultations with relevant departments and an assessment of the weather outlook.
He also revealed that the government is discussing plans to hold optional summer camps during the break period.
The move follows a recent advisory issued by the Punjab Disaster Management Authority warning of unusually high temperatures and increased rainfall during May, June, and July. The authority cautioned that several plain regions of Punjab could experience severe heatwave conditions during the coming weeks.
Last year, the provincial government initially declared summer vacations from May 28 to August 14, but later extended the closure until August 31 due to extreme weather and prolonged heat.
