LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched a cashless fare collection system for its public transport network, allowing passengers to pay digitally through the newly introduced eTransit Punjab App and T-Cash Card.
Announced by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) on Friday, the initiative was developed in partnership with the Punjab Transport Department and the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA). The new electronic payment system is intended to simplify commuting by replacing cash transactions and physical fare tokens.
Passengers can now use either the T-Cash Card or the eTransit Punjab mobile app to pay fares and access metro bus and electric bus services through a unified digital platform. Authorities expect the system to reduce queues, speed up boarding, and provide a more secure and convenient travel experience.
PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf described the launch as a major step toward modernizing Punjab’s public transportation. He said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to using technology to improve service delivery, enhance transparency, and provide citizens with a safer, more efficient, and accessible public transport system.
