LAHORE: The Punjab Education Department has yet to formally notify the Artificial Intelligence (AI) curriculum prepared for students from Grade 1 to Grade 5, delaying the printing of textbooks ahead of the new academic year.
The AI syllabus has reportedly been finalised, but its official notification remains pending. As a result, publishers have also been unable to begin printing the required books.
Publishers have urged the provincial government to issue the notification without further delay, warning that only around six months remain before the beginning of the new academic session.
They said timely approval was essential to ensure AI textbooks are printed and made available to schools before classes commence.
Punjab’s Education Minister had earlier announced that AI education would become compulsory for students up to Grade 5 as part of efforts to introduce technology-focused learning at the primary level.
However, the Education Department said the curriculum would be sent for printing only after receiving approval from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The delay has raised concerns among publishers about whether the books will be ready in time for the upcoming academic year, with stakeholders calling for an early decision to avoid further disruption.
