LAHORE: The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 across the province for five days, prohibiting public gatherings in response to security alerts warning of potential terrorist attacks.
The restrictions will remain effective until September 17, according to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department on Sunday.
The department said law enforcement and intelligence agencies had shared credible information pointing to a “serious and imminent threat” to public safety, peace and the security of life and property across the province.
The notification warned that militant organisations and hostile intelligence agencies could attempt to carry out attacks, particularly at crowded public events.
According to the security alerts, potential threats include suicide bombings, vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) attacks and targeted killings.
Authorities said terrorists could target large gatherings in an attempt to cause casualties, spread panic and unrest, and undermine public order across Punjab.
The provincial government imposed the restrictions as a precautionary security measure in light of the threat assessments provided by intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
