KARACHI: The investigation into the alleged drug trafficking network linked to Anmol alias Pinky has intensified, with authorities identifying several police officials suspected of receiving regular bribes from the operation.
Anmol Pinky was arrested earlier this month during a joint raid carried out by police and a civilian intelligence agency at her apartment in Karachi’s Garden area. She faces cases related to narcotics possession and keeping an unlicensed weapon.
Investigators claim that at least 12 police personnel, including officials connected with Karachi’s South Zone police, were allegedly receiving monthly payments from the network. However, sources said no evidence has yet emerged against officers belonging to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU).
As part of the ongoing probe, South Zone police are preparing to interrogate another suspect, identified as Sameer, who is believed to have links with the alleged network. Authorities are also expected to seek an extension in his physical remand from the court.
According to investigators, Anmol Pinky allegedly carried out financial transactions using Sameer’s bank account along with multiple benami accounts. Officials said nearly Rs900,000 was withdrawn from Sameer’s account just days ago.
The investigation team has additionally traced 35 online delivery riders allegedly associated with the supply chain, including 10 individuals reportedly connected to Punjab.
Police officials stated that 17 out of 25 suspected riders involved in drug distribution have so far been arrested, while further raids and investigations are underway.
