ISLAMABAD: Talks between the federal government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) over parliamentary cooperation concluded without a breakthrough on Thursday, according to sources.
Sources said the government sought the PPP’s support for upcoming legislation, but the party stopped short of giving any firm commitment.
The PPP has also asked the government to inform it in advance about any proposed legislation, party sources said.
According to PPP sources, the government had previously assured the party that it would be taken into confidence before legislation was introduced in parliament.
Sources said a date for the next parliamentary session has not yet been finalised due to the lack of an agreement on legislative cooperation.
Government representatives sought additional time to consult on the PPP’s demand, according to sources.
PPP sources said the final decision regarding the party’s cooperation with the government in parliament would rest with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
