Potential US-Iran talks scheduled for April 20-21 in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: According to sources, the second round of discussions between the United States and Iran is tentatively set to take place in Islamabad on April 20-21.

The city’s administration has reportedly been instructed to prepare for the event, indicating high-level participation from both nations. Preparations are underway in Islamabad to decorate key routes such as the Expressway and Srinagar Highway to warmly welcome the visiting dignitaries. Authorities are implementing rigorous security measures to safeguard the foreign delegations arriving for the talks.

Earlier, a security high alert was declared across the city, with arrangements being finalized in sensitive zones including Islamabad’s Red Zone and other strategic locations. Additional security personnel from various districts of Punjab have been deployed to bolster security in the capital.

Reports from The Wall Street Journal cite an unnamed official from the Trump administration, suggesting that the meetings could occur in Islamabad on Monday. Similarly, CBS reported that the Trump administration is considering dispatching senior US officials to Pakistan to revive dialogue with Iran, with plans possibly starting from the upcoming Monday.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the next round of face-to-face negotiations between the US and Iran is likely to be held in Pakistan. She praised Pakistan’s role in mediating the talks, stating, “Pakistan has played a vital role in facilitating communication between Washington and Tehran. They are the sole mediators in this process.” Leavitt also noted that, despite interest from other nations, the Trump administration prefers to coordinate through Islamabad to streamline communication.
