ISLAMABAD: A senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has established contact with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership following Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s recent statement, according to sources.
Sources said the outreach took place after a meeting of the PML-N’s top leadership at Jati Umra on August 1, where party leaders agreed that efforts should be made to ease tensions with their coalition partner.
According to PPP sources, senior leaders from both parties held a telephone conversation during which they discussed lowering political tensions and limiting public criticism to the electoral contest instead of allowing it to affect their broader alliance.
Although PML-N and PPP remain coalition partners at the federal level, the two parties have been competing against each other in the phased elections for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly. The campaign period and polling day were marked by sharp exchanges and allegations from both sides.
Meanwhile, unofficial election results show PML-N maintaining a clear lead in the second phase of the AJK polls, securing 13 of the 20 contested seats, while PPP candidates won five seats.
