D.G.KHAN: The by-election for the Punjab Assembly constituency PP-289 in Dera Ghazi Khan was concluded without any voting taking place, as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate, Usama Abdul Karim, was declared the winner unopposed.
Reports indicate that nine of the eleven aspirants withdrew their candidacies yesterday, and an additional candidate withdrew today, leaving no opponents in the race. As a result, Usama Abdul Karim was automatically declared the winner.
The vacant seat of PP-289 arose after PML-Nās Mehmood Qadir Leghari successfully contested and was elected to the National Assembly, as confirmed by the returning officer.
