ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of monsoon rains beginning July 29, with widespread showers expected across several parts of the country and a heightened risk of urban flooding in vulnerable areas.
According to the PMD, the incoming weather system is expected to bring rainfall to Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, while the first week of August is likely to see the most intense downpours.
Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department Irfan Virk said Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and the Potohar region are among the areas expected to receive heavy rainfall during the upcoming spell.
He added that Sindh and Balochistan are also likely to experience significant rainfall, indicating that the new monsoon system will affect much of Pakistan.
The PMD has cautioned that prolonged and heavy rain could lead to urban flooding in low-lying cities and has urged relevant authorities to remain on alert and implement precautionary measures to reduce the risk of damage and disruption.
