ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated the government’s commitment to accelerating development in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a ceremony in Gilgit, the Prime Minister inaugurated and performed groundbreaking for several development initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, education, and energy facilities in the region.
He assured that the federal government would extend every possible resource to help resolve the challenges faced by the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. Highlighting the education sector, Shehbaz Sharif announced the establishment of four Daanish Schools in the area. He said the institutions would provide free education along with boarding facilities, meals, uniforms, smart classrooms, and digital libraries to ensure quality learning opportunities for students.
Referring to the 100-megawatt solar energy initiative, the Prime Minister instructed authorities to complete the project by the middle of next year to help meet the region’s growing energy needs.
Speaking about youth welfare programs, he maintained that transparency and merit remain the cornerstone of his government’s policies. He noted that laptops, as well as business and agricultural loan cheques distributed under the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, were awarded solely on merit, describing them as recognition of students’ and young entrepreneurs’ dedication and hard work.
On regional affairs, the Prime Minister said Pakistan had played an important diplomatic role in facilitating a ceasefire between the United States and Iran. He expressed hope that the agreement would contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region and said Pakistan’s efforts would be remembered positively in history.
