PIA Privatization Expected to Conclude by this month

ISLAMABAD: The privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is anticipated to be finalized by this month.

Sources revealed that the Government of Pakistan plans to sell a 50% stake in the national carrier. Both domestic and international investors have expressed interest in acquiring PIA shares, highlighting growing investor confidence.Notably, the value of Class B shares of PIA Holding Company has experienced an extraordinary surge. Shares recently surpassed the Rs22,000 mark, representing an increase of over Rs18,000 within just one month. This rapid escalation has attracted the attention of regulatory authorities.

In response to a notice from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), PIA management issued a formal statement asserting that they are unaware of any developments or information that could justify such a significant rise in share value. Both the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and the PSX have formally sought explanations from PIA regarding the sharp increase in share prices, which has raised concerns about possible speculative activities or undisclosed corporate actions.
