KARACHI: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has issued a weather advisory warning of rain and thunderstorms across several parts of the province from Thursday through Saturday, urging local administrations to remain on high alert.
According to PDMA Director General Salman Shah, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall in multiple districts until July 25, with some areas likely to receive heavy downpours.
The forecast indicates heavy rain in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Badin, and Hyderabad, while Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Jamshoro, and Shaheed Benazirabad are also expected to experience rainfall during the same period.
Light to moderate showers are predicted for Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, and Khairpur, whereas Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, and Thatta are expected to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday.
The PDMA has instructed deputy commissioners and all relevant departments to remain prepared, implement precautionary measures, and closely monitor the evolving weather situation. Authorities have also ensured that emergency response teams and dewatering pumps are on standby to deal with any urban flooding or rain-related emergencies.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said moist monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal continue to influence upper and central parts of the country, while a westerly weather system is also affecting several regions.
The weather office expects intermittent rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms in southeastern and northeastern Sindh, parts of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan over the coming days, with isolated locations likely to receive heavy rainfall.
