ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has conducted an intelligence-based ground operation and precision airstrikes against militant hideouts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the border region with Afghanistan following a series of recent terrorist attacks, the Ministry of Information said Monday.
According to the ministry, security forces launched a carefully planned operation in Kohat, Hangu and Thall, targeting militant groups allegedly involved in attacks that claimed the lives of civilians and security personnel.
The ground operation, carried out on September 20, resulted in the deaths of nine militants, while several others were wounded, the ministry said.
Based on credible intelligence, security forces subsequently carried out selective airstrikes against camps and hideouts linked to Fitna al Khawarij and its affiliates in the Afghanistan border region.
The ministry said three militant targets were destroyed, including a facility used for training suicide bombers. The strikes killed 28 militants, including several suicide bombers, it added.
A substantial quantity of weapons and ammunition stored at the targeted camps and hideouts was also destroyed during the operation.
The ministry said the operations were conducted with precision against locations associated with militant groups responsible for recent attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
