Pakistan reiterates firm position at UN, warns India against escalation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has once again voiced its firm stance at the United Nations, cautioning India against taking any aggressive steps under the pretext of the Pahalgam incident, which it described as a false flag operation.

Speaking on May 2, 2025, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said India’s actions pose a significant risk to regional peace and stability. He noted that Pakistan had already alerted the international community about India’s intentions prior to any escalation.

The envoy stressed that Pakistan has no desire to intensify tensions and has consistently communicated this position through diplomatic channels. At the same time, he affirmed that the country is fully prepared to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity if challenged.

He also issued a warning that any attempt by India to use water as a tool of pressure would be considered an act of war. Pakistan, he added, remains open to UN-led mediation efforts to de-escalate the situation and ensure lasting regional stability.
