ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is observing Air Force Day today, paying tribute to the courage, professionalism and sacrifices of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) personnel who defended the country’s aerial frontiers.
The day is dedicated to remembering the officers and airmen who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, while highlighting the PAF’s longstanding role in protecting Pakistan’s skies.
The force’s performance during the 1965 war remains a defining chapter in its history, with Pakistani pilots displaying exceptional courage and combat skills despite limited resources.
PAF personnel successfully countered Indian air attacks during the conflict, earning recognition for their determination and expertise in aerial warfare.
M.M. Alam’s historic feat
One of the most celebrated episodes of the 1965 war was the performance of PAF ace Muhammad Mahmood Alam, popularly known as M.M. Alam.
He is credited with shooting down five Indian Air Force Hawker Hunter Mk. 56 aircraft in less than a minute, a feat that became one of the most iconic moments in Pakistan’s military aviation history.
The PAF’s role in Marka-e-Haq in May 2025 is also being remembered as another demonstration of its operational capabilities and professional excellence.
Air Force Day serves as an occasion to honour the force’s martyrs and reaffirm the nation’s commitment to defending Pakistan’s sovereignty and airspace.
