ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Navy Day is being observed today to pay tribute to the sailors and officers who demonstrated exceptional courage during the 1965 war and made sacrifices in defence of the country.
The day commemorates the Pakistan Navy’s historic Operation Dwarka, also known as Operation Somnath, carried out during the 1965 conflict.
As part of the operation, seven major Pakistani naval vessels advanced towards the Indian coast and launched an attack on strategic installations at Dwarka. The operation targeted key facilities, including an Indian radar station and a radio beacon.
The successful mission was regarded as a significant demonstration of the Pakistan Navy’s operational capabilities during the war.
The Navy’s submarine PNS Ghazi also played an important strategic role during the conflict, serving as a major deterrent and highlighting Pakistan’s underwater warfare capability.
Pakistan Navy Day serves as a reminder of the bravery, professionalism and sacrifices of the naval personnel who defended the country during the 1965 war.
