ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kuwait have signed the “Protocol Agreement 2026” aimed at further expanding defence cooperation and strengthening institutional ties between the two countries, sources said.
The agreement builds on the bilateral Agreement for Defence Cooperation signed in 2023 and later ratified by Kuwait in 2026, according to sources familiar with the development.
The latest protocol seeks to translate the longstanding friendly and strategic relationship between Pakistan and Kuwait into more structured military-to-military cooperation.
Under the agreement, the two sides will establish a stronger framework for collaboration in areas including military training, deployments and institutional engagement, sources said.
The accord is also seen as a continuation of the defence cooperation developed between the two countries over the years, including their close interaction during and after the First Gulf War.
Sources said the new protocol was designed specifically to facilitate the implementation of the 2023 defence agreement and provide a formal mechanism for expanding bilateral military cooperation.
They clarified that the agreement was not connected to any other bilateral or multilateral arrangement and should be viewed solely in the context of Pakistan-Kuwait defence relations.
The protocol marks another step towards consolidating the longstanding defence partnership between Islamabad and Kuwait and creating stronger institutional links between their armed forces, sources added.
