Pakistan has comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism, says ISPR DG

ISLAMABAD: Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said Pakistan has a clear and comprehensive strategy to eliminate terrorism, while asserting that the country’s armed forces maintain a significant operational preparedness advantage over India.

In another part of his interview with Reuters, aired on October 30, the military spokesperson alleged that the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) were operating as proxies of India.

“Pakistan has the ability to fight whatever India will send its way, and whatever punishment we deliver would be intolerable for India,” he said.

Discussing Pakistan’s counterterrorism strategy, the ISPR chief said a key component was eliminating all factors and networks facilitating terrorist activities within the country.

He identified what he described as an incompetent and indifferent government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as one of the factors that had hindered counterterrorism efforts.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif said security forces were carrying out approximately 200 intelligence-based operations every day against terrorist elements and would continue their campaign.

He maintained that militants operating on behalf of their external sponsors were pursuing an anti-development agenda aimed at disrupting progress and stability in Pakistan.

Highlighting the impact of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said the people of the province had suffered more than any other community from militant violence.

He described the residents of KP as courageous and proud people who remained an important part of Pakistani society, adding that their foremost concern was peace, security and stability.

The ISPR DG said the people of the province were not opposed to counterterrorism operations. He further claimed that they had welcomed the removal of what he described as a major obstacle to the security forces’ efforts against terrorism.
