QUETTA: Pakistan’s security forces have foiled an alleged infiltration attempt from Afghanistan in the Chaman sector along the Pak-Afghan border, security sources said.
According to the sources, Pakistani troops responded after coming under what they described as provocative firing from across the border. The response reportedly resulted in casualties among Afghan Taliban personnel.
The sources claimed that Pakistani forces launched an effective retaliatory action and destroyed several positions used by Afghan Taliban authorities in the area.
They said the action thwarted an alleged attempt to infiltrate Pakistani territory and sent a clear message that any cross-border incursion would be met with a response.
Security sources added that Pakistani forces remain on high alert and are prepared to counter any further infiltration or hostile activity originating from Afghan territory.
The development comes a day after Pakistan carried out precision aerial and drone strikes against military targets at 10 locations in Afghanistan, according to Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar.
In a statement on X, Tarar said Pakistan’s air defence systems had detected and tracked eight drones that crossed into Pakistani airspace from Afghanistan before they were intercepted and neutralised.
The minister described the drone incursion as a “deliberate and unlawful” violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, saying Islamabad had exercised its right to self-defence.
Tarar said the subsequent strikes targeted 10 locations used for launching and storing the drones. He described the operation as deliberate, precise and proportionate, stressing that the targets were limited to identified military installations allegedly linked to attacks against Pakistan.
He said Pakistan had repeatedly raised concerns with the Afghan Taliban authorities and their interlocutors over the presence of terrorist sanctuaries and support networks on Afghan soil.
According to Tarar, instead of taking “credible and verifiable” measures against such networks, the Afghan Taliban authorities had escalated tensions through drone operations against Pakistan.
“Pakistan will neither accept nor tolerate attacks launched from Afghan territory, whether by terrorist groups or by the Afghan Taliban regime itself,” he said.
