ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan is actively working through diplomatic channels to foster peace between the United States and Iran.
He made these remarks during a federal cabinet meeting held in Islamabad today, where he briefed the ministers on Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at facilitating dialogue between the two nations. The Prime Minister highlighted the key roles played by Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, in these efforts. He also referenced the recent visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister to Pakistan as a significant step forward.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that Pakistan is on a path of economic growth following macroeconomic stability, but acknowledged that recent tensions between the US and Iran have temporarily hindered progress made over the past two years. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to overcoming these challenges through collective effort, emphasizing that unity, perseverance, and determination are crucial for success.
The Prime Minister also updated the cabinet on austerity and conservation measures, stating that fuel consumption has decreased considerably compared to previous weeks. He expressed satisfaction with the current supply and availability of petroleum products across the country.
Regarding provincial subsidies, Shehbaz Sharif urged provincial administrations to maintain their support, reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to uphold its promises to the public.
Additionally, he shared that Pakistan has successfully repaid a bilateral loan of $3.5 billion, and noted that despite this repayment, foreign exchange reserves remain stable. The Prime Minister also thanked Saudi leadership for their continued support to Pakistan during challenging times.
