ISLAMABAD: The 78th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, is being observed across the country today to honour his exceptional bravery and sacrifice in the service of Pakistan.
Captain Muhammad Sarwar was born on November 10, 1910, in Singhori village, Gujjar Khan. He was commissioned into the Punjab Regiment in 1944 and later played a distinguished role during the First Kashmir War.
On July 27, 1948, while leading his troops during fighting at Tilpatra in Azad Kashmir, Captain Sarwar embraced martyrdom after displaying remarkable courage and leadership on the battlefield. His gallantry earned him the distinction of becoming Pakistan’s first recipient of the Nishan-e-Haider, the country’s highest military award for valor.
Remembered for leading from the front, he demonstrated outstanding tactical skill, steadfast determination, and complete devotion to duty while defending the nation.
On the occasion, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, and the Armed Forces of Pakistan paid tribute to Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed.
In their messages, the military leadership praised his unmatched bravery, unwavering patriotism, and ultimate sacrifice, describing his legacy as a lasting source of inspiration for future generations and the armed forces.
