Naqvi arrives in Tehran with special message for Iran’s Supreme Leader

ISLAMABAD/TEHRAN: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi travelled to Tehran on Saturday carrying a special message from Pakistan’s top civilian and military leadership for Iran’s Supreme Leader, according to reports by Iran’s state-run media.

The message, sent by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, relates to ongoing regional developments and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region, Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported.

Speaking after a meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, Naqvi confirmed that he had been entrusted with conveying an important communication to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei. He described the message as significant and expressed optimism that regional disputes could be addressed through dialogue and diplomatic engagement.

During the talks, both sides reviewed matters of mutual interest, including border management, counterterrorism cooperation, anti-narcotics efforts and the expansion of bilateral trade relations.

Iranian Interior Minister Momeni appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue and helping ease tensions in the region. He noted that Tehran and Islamabad were committed to increasing annual bilateral trade from the current level of around $3 billion to $10 billion in the coming years.

Naqvi described Pakistan-Iran relations as strong and fraternal, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation between the neighboring countries. He also voiced hope that current regional challenges would be resolved peacefully.

According to reports, the Pakistani minister is scheduled to hold meetings with several senior Iranian officials during his visit, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Pakistan has remained engaged in diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington since tensions escalated earlier this year. A temporary ceasefire was reportedly achieved through mediation efforts in April, although progress in subsequent negotiations slowed amid disagreements over implementation and changing regional circumstances.
