LAHORE: The deadly stampede at TikToker Mr Patlu’s wedding ceremony has become a subject of discussion in the Punjab Assembly, with an opposition lawmaker seeking answers from the government over alleged security lapses and administrative arrangements.
Opposition MPA Nadeem Qureshi has submitted a Calling Attention Notice following the incident in Sialkot, which claimed one life and left 18 others injured.
A case relating to the stampede has been registered at Motra Police Station.
In his notice, Qureshi questioned whether the local administration had formally authorised the large gathering at Daska Stadium in Sialkot.
He also sought details of the security arrangements and standard operating procedures (SOPs) implemented for the event, along with the number of people arrested in connection with the tragedy.
The opposition member called on police to submit a comprehensive investigation report and inform the assembly about the steps taken by authorities.
Mr Patlu seeks justice
Earlier, the TikToker released an emotional video on his social media account, rejecting allegations that he was responsible for the deaths and injuries.
Speaking in tears, Patlu said he had obtained a no-objection certificate (NOC) and official permission before organising the event. He questioned how he could be held responsible for an accident involving members of the public.
He also offered to appear before authorities and said he was willing to face the case if an FIR was registered against him. However, he added that he was unable to walk.
How the stampede occurred
The incident took place during Patlu’s mehndi ceremony at a stadium along Daska Road, where a large number of people had gathered to attend the celebrations.
According to reports, thousands of visitors, including people travelling from distant areas, had assembled outside the venue ahead of a prize draw planned for the occasion.
